‘The White Isle’, ‘Party Island’, call it what you will, Ibiza has a special feeling. As a relatively small island, renting a car is a great way to get yourself around to the beautiful sandy beaches as they are all within roughly an hour’s trip. If driving is off the agenda, local bus services are efficient and dependable. As well as being the party capital of the world, Ibiza has plenty more to see so set your stall out to take in as much of the island as you possibly can.
Ibiza offers an array of things to do aside from partying, and a great place to start are the famous hippy markets.
With venues all over the island, check with the tourist office for times, dates and locations. We recommend not missing out on the market in Las Dalias, near San Carlos. Taking place on Saturdays from 11am, this is the pick of a great bunch.
Families with children will discover fun at every turn in Ibiza, with boat trips, a twister jet, paintballing and bowling amongst the available activities.
Ibiza Town, or Eivissa, is the place to be for shopping. Here you will find everything you need and want and you can shop ‘til you drop from morning through to late evening. From June until September, some old town shops even keep their doors open until midnight. As the sun goes down, the port area transforms into a hippy market, and street vendors come into their own. Jewellery, souvenirs and clothes are amongst the negotiable items on display. Haggle until you can haggle no more, then head to any of the nearby bars to take the weight off.
The old town is defined by steep cobbled streets and these are well worth treading. From here you can take the High Town walk, or Dalt Vila, over the drawbridge and through the Portal de Ses Taules to the main square (Plaza de Vila). Stand atop the battlements and admire the glorious views overlooking the bay and the town. Ibiza Town can boast a rich history and this history is represented by so many sights. Grab some leaflets from your hotel or a tourist office and take in some of them.
The salt flats, or La Salinas, are one of Ibiza’s best-known landmarks. Located just outside the main town, they sparkle and glisten under the beating sun and present a wonderful photo opportunity as the sun goes down.
Talamanca is a mere 15-minute stroll from Ibiza Town and boasts a promenade decorated with bars and restaurants. Talamanca is a quiet resort ideal for families, and has a lovely sandy beach. The nearby Aqualandia Water Park is a great day out for the family to cool down.

The popular resort of San Antonio has nightclubs aplenty but perhaps lacks the volume of beaches you will find elsewhere. The best beach close by is at San Antonio Bay. Despite being the only attractive beach in the resort, the sunsets here are to die for. They will take your breath away. If you need to satisfy a competitive spirit or are just looking for some fun, head to the go-karting track for a few laps under the helmet.
For clubbers and party animals, the other chief clubbing resort is Playa d’en Bossa.
The nightlife is vibrant bordering on hectic, therefore may not suit all comers. However to balance that, the beach has shallow, safe waters and is around 2km long. Windsurfers are attracted to the beach here when the wind picks up from the south.
The three beautiful beaches of Portinatx line the northern tip of the island. The water here is shallow and beautifully clear so children will feel safe and at ease. Snorkelling is popular here due to the clear waters, so why not acquaint yourself with some of the local marine life? For a less up close and personal look at the aqua dwellers, take a glass bottom boat trip and find out a few interesting facts about the lives of these animals. The shops, restaurants and nightlife at Portinatx are attractive and will not disappoint.
