Rome, at any time of the year, has much to offer. The Vatican City is the number one place to visit. If you want to see the Sistine Chapel, lunchtime may be a good time to view and avoid the queues. Climb the steps in St Peters Basilica and marvel at the breathtaking view of Rome and beyond. Michelangelo’s Pietra sculpture is here. Sit on the Spanish Steps and take in the atmosphere, visit the Colosseum, and the Pantheon. And if by the end of your visit to Rome you haven’t seen all that you wanted to see, toss a coin into the Trevi Fountain and this should ensure that you’ll come back!

The industrial city of Milan has fantastic boutiques, and is home to La Scala Opera House. Da Vinci’s painting of The Last Supper is housed in the monastery Santa Maria delle Grazie.

Hotel transfers Italy

An hour’s drive from Florence, a city of culture and history, is Pisa. The leaning tower, after some building work, is now open again to the public.

The lakes of Como, Lugano and Maggiori are in the Tuscany region. Beautiful, calm, relaxing. The towns bordering the lakes are mainly unspoiled with narrow cobbled streets, cafes, restaurants, and shops. The largest lake in Italy is Lake Garda. Malcesine and Garda have medieval buildings and towers. Walk through the olive grove.

Trains run to Pompeii quite frequently from Naples. It’s about a half hour journey. Take plenty of water with you – it can be hot and dusty. And beware of pickpockets. Mount Vesuvius is still active, but pending eruptions are forecast well in advance, so don’t worry.
