Airport Transfers in South Africa

This is where comes to your rescue. A fully licensed and insured driver of a car or mini bus will collect you from the airport and take you and your luggage speedily and in comfort to your holiday accommodation. Your personal transport has already been paid for by you in the UK, so no problem with not having any local currency to pay the fare, or change to tip the driver. What could be simpler? And the same goes for the return journey. Your chauffeur will collect you at the end of your holiday and take you back to the airport – again, all paid for and no need to put some of your holiday spends aside for that return trip.

Although the time in South Africa is only 2 hours ahead of GMT, after a 12 hour flight from the UK, , passport control and luggage collection in SA, you may well feel disorientated on your arrival, as well as tired. A new country, new culture, different weather, different people. All you will want to do is to get to your holiday accommodation as quickly as possible, safely, and without any hassle.

Just a few tips now to ensure that you have an unforgettable holiday. Make sure your travel and medical insurance is up to date and fully comprehensive. Driving in South Africa can be a bit iffy. Use public transport, or ask your driver if he’s available for journeys during your stay. These services won’t have been paid for in the UK, but you could negotiate a favourable rate with him. Don’t take any valuables out with you, or too much money, especially in the evenings. Stick to the main tourist areas, and at night avoid unlit, deserted streets. Keep to the beaten track and you’ll be ok, but in all towns, beware of pickpockets. And don’t forget – safety in numbers.

Check up online to see what current vaccinations you may need. Ensure that your passport has at least 30 days to run from the date of leaving SA, and that you have at least two blank pages in your passport when you arrive.

Johannesburg is a bustling city. Lots to see and do, loads of shopping opportunities, museums, art galleries, restaurants and cafes in which to sit and people watch.

Situated about 45 minutes, by car, is Johannesburg Lion Park. Cuddle a cub, or watch the feeding time shows of the bigger cats. Also in the park are zebras, ostriches and giraffes. J’burg Zoo with over 2000 animals is also a great day out. And, at night, see the stars at night from the other side at J’burg’s Planetarium.

For a super family day out, visit Gold Reef City. A large theme park located on an old gold mine, with tribal dancing displays, water slides and rides, roller coasters, gold-mining museum, restaurants and snack bars. The Tower of Terror is the tallest and fastest roller coaster in Africa – and a G-force of 6.3 will certainly blow those cobwebs away!

Durban, on the coast, is an all year round resort – busy port, lovely promenade, restaurants and shopping malls. The Durban Botanical Gardens are full of exotic plants and flowers. Take a picnic and relax on the grass under the trees.

Take a day tour to the Drakensburg Mountains, with their sparkling blue lakes, fresh air, and dramatic scenery. Wear some comfortable shoes, take some sunscreen, and don’t forget your camera.
